Getting Started

So this whole blog thing is a little new to me, but I'm totally okay with that now that the school year is over. So, WELCOME TO MY BLOG! : )

My plan for this blog is to keep you all updated on my mentorship in South Dakota this summer. I will be leaving May 30th for Mitchell, SD, where I will spend 4 weeks working with Lori Holmberg, Executive Director of the Dakota Discovery Museum on the campus of Dakota Wesleyan University. On June 24th, I will continue my adventure in Spearfish, SD, working with Randi Sue Smith, Museum Curator and Archivist for the DC Booth Historic National Fish Hatchery and Archives. I'll be heading back to the good old Illinois flatlands on July 15th, just in time for the Iroquois County Fair.

I can't lie folks, I'm pretty excited about this! Not only will I get to return to the Black Hills for the summer, but I'll get to spend some good quality time with artifacts and documents. I'm hoping to learn a lot. Besides getting basic experience handling these objects, I'll have the opportunity to use some digitizing software and see how these artifacts are stored, cataloged, and used in exhibit design.

I don't leave for awhile, but I thought I'd get this whole 'blog thing' going before I get too occupied with packing and enjoying life on the farm before I leave. See you all in South Dakota! : )
